Restful Sleep Center provides custom, titratable oral appliance therapy for appropriate adults with physician-diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea. The device is designed to position the lower jaw forward during sleep and help maintain an open airway.
Who may be a candidate
An oral appliance may be considered when CPAP is not tolerated or an adult prefers an alternative after medical discussion. Suitability depends on the sleep-study results, medical risks, teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints, and treatment goals. It is not right for everyone.
What makes a custom device different
Dr. Dawson selects and fits a device to the individual patient. A titratable appliance can be adjusted gradually. A store-bought mouthguard is not the same as a custom device used in medically coordinated OSA care.
From consultation to delivery
The dental visit reviews your history, records, oral health, bite, and jaw function. When appropriate, we take a digital scan, select a device, then check its fit at delivery and teach insertion, removal, cleaning, and morning bite care. See what to expect at the consultation.
Titration and follow-up
We adjust the appliance gradually for comfort and response. Patients may experience salivation changes, tooth or jaw discomfort, or changes in the bite. We monitor and address these issues during follow-up.
Verify effectiveness
Feeling less sleepy or hearing less snoring can be encouraging, but it does not establish adequate OSA control. We coordinate with the medical provider for appropriate follow-up sleep testing or medical review after titration.
Long-term dental care
Periodic visits assess appliance condition, teeth, bite, jaw joints, symptoms, and ongoing use. Contact the team if the fit changes, symptoms recur, or jaw or dental discomfort develops.
